The Changes At Youtube

You’ll notice that the changes haven’t really come to the Canadian Youtube. Canadians can’t yet watch any of the shows and films listed. So what changes, eh ?

A Major Problem With Youtube Comments

You know what’s annoying ? No, not the comment limits that appear to have come back. That is quite annoying but i’d like to discuss the threading problem Youtube has.

I had left a comment a few days back in response to another comment left on a video that asked people to watch another video. But unfortunately the threading system decided to completely disregard the previous message by that other commenter resulting in my message being placed in a position that could be misinterpreted as a critique against the video on which the comment were posted.

This threading problem promotes confusion and i’ve encountered quite a few lengthy comment treads in which users have obviously been unable to distinguish to whom comments were addressed.

I certainly hope Youtube will do something about this soon because people make mistakes. I personally could have been more specific in my comment to avoid this problem but I had responded in a normal, informal manner.

You’re just in denial. Deep down you’re feeling guilty about not buying Celine Dion CDs. And if one or two of you can be convinced to buy a Celine Dion CD, then my job is done. All will be right in the world if that happens !

That’s right. I was pulling a Onision.

Basically he thinks berating people to follow his interests is acceptable and that because he got a few sheep with no fortitude to follow him that he should be congratulated.

You know what. I actually like some of Celine Dion’s material, mostly her french recordings, but I don’t need to convert people to all of her material. I don’t think more or less of people who share or don’t share my interests.

I’ve accepted that people have different tastes and opinions. But I also know of a few fans that believe that it is their duty to convert people into listening to all of her material and that I’m a “lesser fan” for not liking her sub par, overemotional cover of “The Power Of Love” and that ghastly Titanic theme that the radio station have decided to play ad nauseam here in Ottawa.

Fanaticism is the common denominator here. And in the end people who are choosing this lifestyle after watching Onision’s videos are doing it on a whim, some in an attempt to appeal to him.

These followers will either fail miserably because they are fickle or will be further converted into militant veganism, something Onision doesn’t like. He’s already had several vegans berating him on Youtube, saying he hasn’t converted far enough.

This was Onision’s response to the vegan fanatics.

Intolerant Guilt Peddling Vegans

You know, i’ve watched Kangarooelaine’s response to Onision on Youtube and just had to laugh.

This person claims that vegetarians and vegans should be tolerant of Onision’s style yet in the same video claims that people should be made to feel guilty for eating meat.

From the description of the video one can see that she limits her tolerance to people that share her beliefs, exclusively.

Now, I don’t like hockey and I haven’t yet watched a hockey video on Youtube, so I’m wondering why this was added to my recommendations.

I haven’t watched any videos that would have had contained the most of the tags listed on this video.

Weird.

The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side

And at Walmart ?

Apparently people in a nearby community have been driving 35 or so minutes to get to my local Walmart and now want their own.

I guess the commercials have worked, luring some of the sheep away from the many retailers that already exist in that town, including several deep discount stores like No Frills and Giant Tiger.

Seriously, Walmart may promise low prices but they’re pretty much average. And I’ve always found comparable prices at stores that are more conveniently located to me, most of which are Canadian owned and/or run.

I’ve been to the Walmart they drive to and I don’t see why they are in any way impressed. And I’m quite surprised that they would even bother to want one because the superstore in Renfrew is 26 minutes away.

If I were an Arnprior resident, I’d be concerned about this store emptying out the businesses in the downtown core.

Local businesses tend to close a few years after a Walmart moves into small towns like Arnprior and in the end this hurts the local economy, which in turn causes Walmart to cut back and sometimes move on to larger communities.

I’m not saying it’s intentional but it happens.

In Renfrew they actually moved from a mall on one end of that town to a stand alone Superstore on the other, causing the mall to wither and struggle without an anchor. And to make matters worse the large call center that moved into the former Walmart in 2006 closed their doors last February.

I’d rather see a Zellers open up in Arnprior. It would offer some variety and competition.
