So…..

July 31, 2009

The anti-sealing troll on Youtube just claimed I was a woman.

Yeah.

Hmm.

That would explain his obsession with me.

Seriously, I was quite concerned that I was dealing with a pedophile seeing that the only pictures of me that I have online are of when I was a kid.

But then he thinks I’m a woman…

(enter awkward silence here)

Anyhow, here’s a video from the second account I have on Youtube that he constantly bitches about :

The Meat Eating Anti-Sealing Activist ?

July 30, 2009

It is understandable that a vegetarian or vegan would oppose the seal hunt because it results in the death of animals. But isn’t it rather selective and hypocritical for meat eaters to oppose the hunt ?

Violations happen in slaughterhouses and PETA imply these are systemic problems whenever they ask for donations, yet meat eaters still eat their beef, chicken, lamb, etc.

They still condone the use of leather in on furniture, jackets, shoes and sneakers.

They still allow billions of male baby chicks to be killed every year, some of which are shredded alive.

If they are allowed the luxury to not believe the violations are significant in one industry then I am entitled to agree with the EFSA’s conclusions in regards to another industry – The sealing industry.

The Fear Of Knowledge

July 30, 2009

It is quite apparent that some anti-sealing activists do not like the manner in which this blog predicts their statements and presents an argument before they write it.

They don’t like this blog because it cuts through all of their nonsensical personal accusations, ploys and rhetoric. And they absolutely detest the fact that the blog isn’t a person they can shame or bully into silence.

Even the author of this blog, yours truly, is not responsible for most of the information provided on this blog and like i’ve said before, I have no vested interest in the seal hunt to attack.

If they were truly right they would not be abusive towards people who are simply interested in the subject. But the knowledge provided by the blog, mostly in the form of quotes and links, threatens their self appointed position and compels them to be abusive.

If they didn’t fear knowledge they would not abuse systems like Youtube and Facebook, nor would they have threatened the families of EU delegates, nor would that have disregarded the safety of fellow humans for their cause.

Anti-Sealing Appeal To Popularity

July 29, 2009

I have never been interested to buy anything just for a logo or brand name so why exactly do some anti-sealing activists think their use of IFAW polls would change my stance in the seal hunt issue ?

It’s not in my nature to follow trends, either with the crowd or against the crowd, so why would I be compelled to follow what someone claims is popular and to disregard something that someone claims is not popular ?

Popularity is fickle and subjective so it is rather sophomoric to try to impose popularity as a prerequisite in this debate.

Like ad hominids, the appeal to popularity is a fallacy. But of course this doesn’t appear to matter to the activists because their primary target are unaware that it is, as they are unaware of the meaning of “swimming reflex”.

Oblivious Activists

July 28, 2009

As I had mentioned before, some activists are clearly oblivious to the realities of international law.

They actually believe that the bill was a condemnation of the Canadian hunt that was written in stone when in reality it does no such thing and is actually open to negotiation.

Dorian Prince, the EU Ambassador to Canada stated “Europe is not against commercial seal hunting in Canada but only wants to make sure the animals are killed humanely” during an interview with the CTV. He also stated that the goal of the legislation is not to ban legitimate commercial hunts in places such as Newfoundland and Iles-de-la-Madeleine.

“All we want to do is agree to proper management, proper methods, proper supervision so that we have the guarantee that no animal suffers unduly”

In regards to the EFSA he stated “This body has produced a list of methods that we consider to be completely unacceptable and cruel and it also lays down methods that we consider to be acceptable”.

At the moment the anti-sealing activists are attempting to thwart these negotiations but have lost support during the last election at the EU. The Quebecois government is currently in negotiations with the EU Commission but there appears to be some confusion in regards to want the activists want :

Don’t ban hakapik, say sealers and activists” – National Post / Wednesday, April 16, 2008

No Answers, Just Vilification

July 27, 2009

Vilification. That is all some anti-sealing have to offer and quite frankly they prove my case whenever they try to make me out as an evil person for not subscribing to their vague opinions and knee jerk emotional responses.

It appears that because the alleged victims are young that these people think “Better safe that sorry” can be used as an excuse to skip through all of the scientific studies and other due process.

They attempt to claim a moral high ground to dispense guilt at will yet nobody recognizes their authority and their hypocrisy is blatant.

Yes, instead of showing the subjects of the hunt as they truly are, molted and gray, they use pictures of whitecoats because these are more visually appealing.

They also prioritize the harp seal over less appealing sea creatures like turtles and some sharks, many of which are actually threatened according to the IUCN.

They apparently live in a two dimensional, oversimplified world and obviously resent being questioned so much that all they can do is spew venom and hatred towards people that don’t agree with them.

Ass Backward Activism & Democracy

July 26, 2009

Apparently some foreign anti-sealing groups think that the only reason they weren’t able to substantiate their claims in Canada is because our political system doesn’t work.

I guess we’re supposed to forget that they also failed to convince the European Food Safety Authority to subscribe to their hearsay as well, and that their video “evidence” is anecdotal and was deemed inconclusive, even by the veterinary experts IFAW hired for their March 2001 report.

But then these were the same people that undemocratically commandeered responses for their cause on their December 22nd, 2008 to January 2nd, 2009 poll.

This IFAW/Environics Research poll, which started off with a leading question, found that 54% of the 2021 Canadian polled either strongly opposed or somewhat opposed the hunt (38% Strongly / 16% Somewhat).

BUT in the press releases IFAW claimed that 6 out of 10 of the Canadians polled said they opposed the hunt, which means they rounded their figures up by 6%.

They commandeered that 6% rate from respondents that DID NOT say they opposed the hunt to pad their numbers. That’s 121 respondents whose opinions were not convenient for them, that they’ve changed without the respondent’s consent.

These are the same groups that attempted to circumvent our political processes by flooding our Senate with foreign correspondence after an anti-sealing bill failed, miserably. And they are also attempting to completely disregard the opinions of the 37% of Canadians that support the hunt by trying to gain undue influence in this country via the US Senate, who passed a resolution that “strongly supports an unconditional prohibition by the European Union on trade in seal products”.

Yes. You read right. All this talk about respecting the Inuit yet they don’t support exemptions and there was no mention of an exemption for Inuit in the resolution itself either. But I digress.

Canada’s system will not alter itself to make their tasks easier. They failed to adapt or justify anything and that’s not this country’s problem.

Good News = Negative Comment Ratings ?

July 25, 2009

You would think that good news would get positive comment ratings on Youtube but when it comes to the sealing issue, it doesn’t.

The IUCN clearly state on their Red List site that the harp seal is not threatened and that their population is not dropping yet whenever I mention this I get negative comment ratings.

This makes no sense unless the people giving these negative comment ratings have ulterior motives.

They obviously don’t want people to find out that the WWF are not alone in regards to their belief that the harp seal is not threatened. And the International Union for Conservation of Nature is THE organization that determines what is and isn’t threatened or endangered.

In what way does this shill behavior help the seals ?

Jean Lapointe’s “La Chasse Aux Phoques”

July 23, 2009

I forgot to mention this but Jean Lapointe, one of Quebec’s most prolific composers, released a song entitled “La Chasse Aux Phoques” on his “L’eau” album.

The song can be purchased and downloaded from Zik.ca and an English translation of the french lyrics can be found here.

Note that Celine Dion has a duet with Jean on this album as well.

Les Lye / RIP 1924-2009

July 22, 2009

I thought i’d pop in from my break to tell you that Canadian television personality Les Lye has passed away at the age of 84 yesterday.

Les Lye stared in You Can’t Do That On Television, a children’s comedy skit program that was filmed here in Ottawa at Carleton Productions at the corner of Merivale and Clyde from 1979 to 1990.

This television program reached cult status after it had gained international exposure through Nickelodeon in the United States.
